Power of Words

We had a past graduate of the high school where I teach come back to inspire the students for college week.  Some really good nuggets of info that is heard often, but when do we actually take it to heart and think/apply to life?
*Don't let your here define your future.
*Learn to distinguish what's real and fake before you get out of here. It will save you from getting hustled.
*Discernment- take the good & leave the bad.
*Who are you role models? What do they stand for?
*Keep a small, tight inner circle of friends that encourage you, don't put you down.
*Remember the power of words.

What is your greatest piece of advice to inspire a student to greatness?

Introduction

I have been teaching high school theatre and dance in a rural North Carolina High school for 2.5 years.  I teach beginning and advanced theatre arts, advanced technical theatre, play production, and 4 levels of dance.  I also co-coach our high school's guard team and choreograph for the marching band's competition show.  The purpose of this blog is to share and collect ideas on inspiring students through arts education.  It’s also a place to discuss being a new teacher.  I hope to start conversations and start a learning community to help make myself and the readers of this blog better educators.
